Chum Salmon are an aggressive, hard fighting fish that can put the most seasoned anglers to the test. This fish was released in one of the Matanuska Valley streams and will be a part of the nine year old anglers memories forever. This is Jarons first salmon on the fly rod and I’m sure that he is hooked for life. Congratulations and Enjoy!

This particular rainbow trout was caught and released on the Kenai River. The Kenai River produces fish over the 30″ mark every year and this one was 33.5″.

Since 2003 we have been working hard at exploring remote rivers in Alaska so that we can offer back country trips as a part of our operation. In June of 2009 we traveled to the headwaters of King Salmon river to start a week long float with a great group of guys in search of Arctic Grayling, Arctic Char and Rainbow Trout! Kenai River Dec. 2009

The first weekend of Dec. was beautiful on the Kenai river.Â We didn’t catch a ton of Rainbow trout but enough to keep us motivated.Â Skilak lake is now starting to freeze over and wade fishing opportunities are about all that is available now.Â The weather was excellent today with temperatures over 30 degrees!Â I wasn’t out on the river but I know a few people that took full advantage and look forward to the report.Â Winter fishing is a great time of year to get out on the Kenai river, so pick a window of good weather and get outside!Â Good luck and we’ll see you out there.

Homer Alaska lingcod and Halibut fishing

If you are visiting the Alaska in the fall and the weather is right for you Ling cod and halibut fishing can be very good.Â Be sure to dress for a colder days of fishing though.Â Be prepared for 25 – 50 degrees after mid Sept.

SteelHead Fishing

Join Drifting on the Fly for some great steelhead fishing in Alaska on the Anchor river the first weekend in Oct.Â We have a great camp set up that has enough room for many tents in the same area.Â We are wanting to share camp with those that have fished with us, follow our blog and receive our newsletters.Â So if you are able to make it and like what our company is all about feel free to show up and make yourself part of the 2009 steelhead festivities.Â Camp is now set up and the steelhead are in!!

This is not a guided fishing weekend but a weekend to get together and share some good times.Â although we will be willing to help out with technique, casting and reading water to those that are interested in learning a little more about catching the most explosive fish in Alaska!

Fall Rainbow trout fishing, Kenai River

Rainbow Trout fishing has been very good this fall.Â Friends and clientsÂ are all getting into big fish and lots of them.Â Follow the sockeye salmon and you will be sure to get into some quality trout fishing.Â Flesh is starting to really produce some good fish also.Â Â 2009 fishing season is coming to an end fast but there is still time to get out on the river with us one more time.Â If you think that you may like to fish this season call asap to reserve your spot.Â Only a few more weeks of fishing and limited spots available!

STEELHEAD CAMP 2009

We will be camped out on the Anchor river the first weekend in Oct. If you are interested in capping off the end of the fishing season sharing camp with some hard core steelhead fishermen we’d love to have you join us. We plan to have a wonderful camp fire Friday and sat. night with good food and laughs, along with some epic steel head fishing. There is plenty of camp sites in the area along with the Anchor river Inn for those that would like a warm room and shower at a reasonable price. RainbowTrout fishing continues to get better. The middle Kenai river king salmon are really dropping eggs now and the bite is on. Large 10 mils worked best today.

ALASKA KING SALMON FISHING

King salmon fishing is officially over in Alaska now.Â The end of July marks the end of King salmon fishing on the Kenai peninsula.Â Though it was a great season we are now geared up and focused on Silver Salmon, Sockeye salmon and rainbow trout.

I had the pleasure of fishing with my family on the last day of King salmon season and this 53″ Buck took an orange cheater.Â We ended up landing this fish more than a mile from where it was hooked!!Â Though king season is over look for more pictures and info about king fishing with us in the future.Â The 2010 season is really not that far away so if you are interested in a prime date be sure to book early.
