Fresh Sockeye Salmon

Sockeye salmon are hard fighting, acrobatic fish that will test the best of equipment.  I recommend the following gear for a day out for sockeye:

  • 7 to 8 weight fly rod

  • weight forward floating line

  • sink tip 3, fly line

  • and/or a Teeny 200 sinking line

  • a good reel with a sturdy drag

  • 100+ yards of 20lb. dacron backing

  • a 9' 15lb leader will work fine for sockeye

  • I prefer a #2 or #1 hook

  • A good fly selection:

  • -cohoe flies

  • -comet flies

  • -yarn flies

  • -egg patterns

  • The most productive color seems to be chart. and pink

If you do not have gear for sockeye fishing or would just like to use ours, we can provide this equipment for you.

Sockeye and sockey fillet  Sockeye salmon are fished primarily from gravel bars and run close to the shore.  These fish can be caught by novice fisherman and also provide a lot of fun for the most advanced fisher person!
