Guided Alaska Steelhead Fishing

fall steelhead ready for release
  1. Alaska is home to some of the most northern runs of steelhead in the world.  They are considered to be the most exciting and challenging sport fish to pursue!  We invite you to take the challenge and join us in the hunt.

Steelhead (oncorhynchus mykiss) have the most delicate take but when hooked it will feel like a freight train just hit your line.   They will jump, flip, run up and down the river, hold in strong current and put the best of gear to their breaking limits. The average size of fish you can expect to catch is 8-12 pounds and 25-30 inches long.  The rivers that we will fish are fairly small compared to other rivers in the area.  Wade fishing is the most productive way to access Steelhead in our area and we do have a couple drifts that we offer.  When fishing the surrounding rivers you can expect to encounter traditional deep holding water, pocket water, and long runs.  Classic Steelhead water!

There are no genetic differences between a steelhead and rainbow trout. The distinguishing factor between the two are that steelhead only spend part of their life in freshwater. The change in environment does change some of the Steelhead's characteristics but not much.

Steel head fishing:

Spring, april 20th until May 20th

Fall,      Sept. 15th through Oct.

Recommended Gear:

We prefer a 9 to 10 1/2 foot 8 weight for easy mending and roll casting.  This seems to best suite for the rivers that I fish.  Two handed rods, switch rods and spin or float gear are also fun.

All of our waters are strictly catch and release.
